Music at Kingsacre
"Music can change the world." - Beethoven
"Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a spirit and never dies" - Edward Lytton
We are passionate about music at Kingsacre. The children love to come together to sing at weekly singing assemblies as well as Harvest and Christingle festivals held at St Brannock's Church. Our Year One and Two children all take part in a yearly Infant Choir Festival at Braunton Academy in the spring. We also have a Junior school choir, who perform at The Landmark Theatre every year in the Summer term. Both of these events include children from the other BLCT schools, so they are very special.
In the curriculum, children have weekly music lessons which follow the Charanga Devon adopted scheme of work. This means that they enjoy singing and playing glockenspiels to 'Livin' on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi in Year 5 or learn about hip hop and old skool rap music in Year One. This gives the children a breadth of music learning. Every lesson gives children opportunities to listen and appraise, compose, improvise and enjoy music.
Our children take part in Christmas productions every year from Reception to Year 6. They love to sing their Christmas songs up on the stage in front of their parent. At Kingsacre, we intend to identify musical talent and give children the opportunities in the spotlight to shine.
We offer our children guitar and piano lessons, taught by visiting specialist teachers. We subsidise under resourced children in order for them to benefit from these opportunities too. We also hold regular music assemblies where children can perform to their parents and other children within the school.
At Kingsacre, we are also very unique in that we have our own school song. You can read the words to it as they up in our school hall for everyone to see. Many parents who attended our school still enjoy hearing it too.
