MUSIC IN EYFS

Expressive Arts and Design - Being Imaginative and Expressive

Music in the EYFS at Kingsacre is woven through daily routines and creative play, encouraging children to express themselves and respond to sound. Our curriculum provides opportunities to explore rhythm, pitch, tempo, and dynamics through singing, movement, and the use of simple instruments.

Children listen to a wide range of music from different cultures and genres, developing their ability to notice patterns and respond emotionally. They are encouraged to sing familiar songs and learn new ones, experiment with sounds, and make up their own music.

Our learning spaces are enriched with musical instruments, sound-making resources, and opportunities for dance and movement. Music is integrated into story time, celebrations, and role play, allowing children to connect music to emotions, stories, and special moments.

At Kingsacre, children are supported to express their feelings and ideas through music and movement. They are encouraged to listen carefully, collaborate with others, and appreciate a variety of musical traditions. Through music, children learn to communicate, cooperate, and celebrate creativity in a joyful and inclusive way.

Children will achieve the following Early Learning Goals:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Develops collaboration, confidence, and appreciation of diversity.
  • Communication and Language: Enhances listening, singing, and expressive vocabulary.
  • Mathematics: Supports rhythm, pattern, and sequencing.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World: Explores musical traditions and instruments.
  • Physical Development: Supports gross motor skills through movement and dance.
  • Creative Development: Encourages improvisation, performance, and composition.
