Religious Education at Kingsacre
We believe that it is fundamental for the children to belong to a safe and nurturing community where children will develop an array of skills that will enable them to make their own positive contribution to our global society. Children engage in an enquiry approach where they can develop their curiosity, understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community. They explore people’s beliefs and the difference this makes to how they live.
A child learning about Religious Education at Kingsacre Primary School will:
- Ask questions about the ultimate meaning of life, beliefs about God, the nature of reality and morality.
- Develop their knowledge and understanding of principal world religions, religious traditions and world-views,
- Develop their sense of identity and belonging, in order to flourish within communities, as responsible citizens in society and global communities.
- Develop respect for others and their beliefs and help to challenge prejudice.
- Consider their responsibilities to themselves and to others, and explore how they might contribute to their communities and to wider society
- Be empathetic, generous, curious and compassionate.
At Kingsacre Primary School we follow the Devon Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. Children develop their understanding of Christianity in each Key Stage as well as learning about principal religions represented in the UK: Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Judaism. In addition, non-religious worldwide views are represented including for example Humanism.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN EYFS
Understanding the World - People, Culture and Communties
Religious Education in the EYFS at Kingsacre helps children begin to make sense of the world around them and the diverse beliefs and traditions within it. Through stories, celebrations, and shared experiences, children learn about different religions, faiths, and cultures.
Our children explore festivals and special times such as Diwali, Christmas, Easter, Eid, and Chinese New Year. They talk about their own experiences and those of others, developing empathy and understanding. This encourages respect for diversity and an appreciation of how beliefs can shape people’s lives.
The learning environment includes books, artefacts, and images that reflect a range of faiths and cultural traditions. These materials support curiosity and discussion, helping children to see similarities and differences between families and communities.
At Kingsacre, children are encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas, and reflect on what is special to them. Through RE, they develop a sense of belonging and respect, learning to celebrate diversity within our school and the wider world.
